Westport –Louisburgh – Delphi Valley
From Westport take the R335 to Murrisk where you will find Croagh Patrick Irelands holy mountain 762 meters high also the famine ship and Murrisk Abbey past the beaches and onto Louisburg. Past Louisburg at the crossroads go straight ahead for the wonderful beaches of White strand and Silver strand where the film Tristan and Izolda was made, watch it before you come and wonder at the marvellous scenery.
Back to the crossroads at Louisburg turn for Leenane down the majestic Delphi Valley past the lakes where Prince Charles stayed and fished for the elusive sea trout. Down towards the Killary fiord and on by Ashleeagh falls then make the decision turn right for Leenaune, Clifden, or turn left back into Westport
Westport – Achill Island
From Westport take the road to Newport and 1 mile on Mulranny road watch out for signs for Nephin Drive turn right and travel in by the Furnace lakes into the forest – Majestic Turn around in the forest and come back to the crossroads turn right by the Salmon research centre and back through the lakes until you come out onto the road to Mulranny onto Mulranny and after the village turn left at the sign for Atlantic Drive and enjoy the lovely scenery on this part of the drive, at the main road turn left for Achill, over the bridge onto the island and after the village turn left for Atlantic drive and this is the nicest drive in Ireland turn left for Keel and onto Keel bay with its breathtaking views and you are on Irelands highest sea cliffs (walk of 20 mins around the mountain) from Keel back to Keel and left for the deserted village and back to Westport. A wonderful day out.
